JUAN DURAN

As a coach, Juan started in Colombia from a very young age when he got the chance to coach at several of the high-performance programs he played at. Even while he was still a player, Juan felt a special love for coaching the sport and helping others excel. Throughout his time in college, Juan coached in numerous programs from NY to Iowa. Juan recently graduated from his MBA from Northwest Missouri State University, and during his time completing his master’s degree, Juan acted as the assistant coach for both the Men’s and the Women’s tennis teams at the university. During this time, Juan balanced administrative duties for the teams, coaching duties, traveling with the team, and his own rigorous course load. In spite of the challenges he faced, both teams broke many records in the years Juan spent as their coach. Some successes include: the highest national ranking in school history for both the women’s and the men’s teams (both reached #7 in the nation), several players nationally ranked in both sides, and 2 regional championships of the MIAA in 22/23. Duran finished his college coaching career by advancing both teams into the sweet 16’s NCAA National tournament in 2023. Juan’s experience working intimately with players to help them bring home wins at the highest levels of collegiate tennis combined with his experience developing juniors from beginners to advanced players gives him a unique insight in how to take kids from a junior player to a champion at the highest levels of the sport. Juan’s coaching philosophy is as simple as to find the best version of every player on and off the court. He has an ambition of developing players into champions by instilling core values, providing personalised and rigorous training, adopting an offensive playing style and giving constructive and positive feedback to reach every individual’s goals. He works around humility, respect, overcoming obstacles, patience, tolerance and self-control as the core values for developing any kind of player.
