Recovery Tips for Adult Tennis and Pickleball Players: Stay Strong, Stay on Court 💪🎾

June 7, 2025

Here are some smart recovery tips tailored to adult players of all ages and levels:

1.  Hydrate Before, During, and After

Dehydration slows recovery and increases fatigue. Be sure to drink plenty of water before you even step on the court. Bring a reusable water bottle or cup, and take small sips during breaks. After your session, rehydrate with water or an electrolyte drink—especially on warmer days.

2. Stretch It Out

Tennis and pickleball use your entire body—and repetitive movement can cause tightness in muscles and joints. Spend 5–10 minutes stretching after each session, focusing on your shoulders, back, hips, hamstrings, and calves. Gentle stretching improves flexibility and reduces soreness the next day.

3. Fuel Your Body

What you eat matters for your recovery. Have a light, protein-rich snack within 30–60 minutes of finishing your session—think Greek yogurt, a protein bar, or a banana with peanut butter. For longer sessions, bring a healthy snack to refuel mid-way.

4. Listen to Your Body

If something feels off—tight, painful, or unusually sore—don’t push through it. Take a rest day or choose a lighter activity like walking or swimming. Recovery is when your body repairs and strengthens itself. Overdoing it can set you back.

5. Use Tools if Needed

Foam rollers, massage guns, Epsom salt baths—there’s no shame in using a little help. These tools can reduce muscle tension and improve circulation, making recovery smoother and faster.

6. Get Enough Sleep

Don’t underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. Sleep is your body’s #1 recovery tool. Aim for 7–9 hours if you’re training regularly, especially after an intense session or tournament.
